Yakou Meite has said goodbye to Cardiff City in an emotional social media post as he becomes one of seven players departing the relegated Welsh club. The striker's contract expires at the end of June, bringing his two-year stint with the "Bluebirds" to an end.
"Thanks @CardiffCityFC for this 2years. Really wanted to do well for this club but unfortunately its been a difficult season. Always tried to do my best and I will still leave with some good memories," Meite wrote on X.
Despite experiencing both highs and lows during his time in Wales, Meite expressed hope that the club would make an immediate return to the Championship following their relegation.
"I've met some incredible peoples who deserve to be happy again and Watch this club going straight back to the champ. Wish you all the best for the future bluebirds #LaBrute," he added.
Meite isn't the only player heading for the exit door. The club has confirmed that Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas, and Aaron Ramsey will also leave when their contracts expire this month.
El Ghazi, whose time at Cardiff was hampered by injuries and inconsistent form, also shared a farewell message on Instagram, thanking the club for giving him the opportunity to play football again.
Meanwhile, Cardiff are reportedly eyeing Bristol Rovers midfielder Kamil Conteh. The 22-year-old Sierra Leone international is attracting interest from multiple clubs, with Derby County and Wycombe Wanderers also in the hunt. Interestingly, Conteh is believed to have a significant release clause in his contract, with Bristol Rovers bracing for offers this summer.
The "Bluebirds" transfer plans face a significant hurdle, however. The club currently has no permanent manager in place, with Brian Barry-Murphy in talks to take over from Omer Riza. The appointment depends on Leicester City agreeing to release Barry-Murphy from his current role.
Will Cardiff secure their managerial target in time to build a squad capable of bouncing straight back to the Championship? That's the pressing question facing the Welsh club this summer.
