Serdal Adali, the president of "Besiktas", has officially announced what he calls "the biggest deal in the club's history" during the 2025 Second Ordinary Board of Directors Meeting held at the Istanbul Congress Center on June 14.
"We've secured 70-75 million euros in resources in just six months. By the end of the year, we have another 40 million euros in payments. It's not enough, we must find new sources," Adali stated during his address to the board members.
The landmark deal centers around a major real estate project involving an unused plot of land in Dikilitaş that has remained unutilized for 40 years. The project includes partnerships with Ziraat Bank and Emlak Konut, with Adali emphasizing that all proceeds will go directly toward paying off the club's interest-bearing debts.
The financial situation at "Besiktas" appears dire. The club's debt was announced as 16 billion 463 million Turkish lira, with the black and white outfit currently paying 125,000 euros in interest daily, 4 million euros monthly, and a staggering 50 million euros annually.
"Every second that passes harms Besiktas. The system works so quickly and cruelly. We must make moves to save Besiktas from this situation," Adali explained, highlighting the urgency of the financial crisis.
Interestingly, the meeting also saw Tevfik Yamantürk, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, apologize to the "Besiktas" community for an incident involving former president Hasan Arat during the previous board meeting on April 12. "I apologize to our community. What happened on April 12 shouldn't have happened. Whether he deserves it or not isn't my business. I shouldn't have been in that picture," Yamantürk stated.
The real estate project, backed by the Turkish government, represents a critical lifeline for a club drowning in debt. By the time you finish reading this article, "Besiktas" will have accumulated several thousand euros more in interest payments.
Can this historic deal finally free the Istanbul giants from their financial shackles, or is it just another temporary solution to a much deeper problem?
