Xavi Simons appears determined to leave "RB Leipzig" despite recently extending his contract until 2027. The 22-year-old Dutch international feels he has reached his ceiling at the German club and wants to consistently compete in the Champions League.

The former Barcelona youth product and PSG player has attracted several suitors. Manchester City are among the clubs interested, but Simons isn't their top priority.

"I need to play at the highest level consistently," sources close to the player have indicated about his motivation for seeking a move.

According to French publication L'Equipe, Simons is actually Plan B for the English champions. Pep Guardiola's primary target is Rayan Cherki, the 21-year-old talent from "Olympique Lyon".

Interestingly, while Cherki hasn't officially agreed to join "Manchester City" yet, negotiations have accelerated significantly in recent hours. The parties are reportedly close to finalizing contractual terms, with an official bid from City to the Ligue 1 club expected imminently.

For Simons, this development could prove crucial in determining his next destination. Will the Dutch international end up at the Etihad if the Cherki deal falls through, or does he have other Champions League contenders lined up?
