Yakou Meite has said goodbye to "Cardiff City" as he prepares to leave the Welsh club at the end of this month. The striker is one of seven first-team players departing when their contracts expire in June.
"Thanks @CardiffCityFC for this 2years. Really wanted to do well for this club but unfortunately its been a difficult season. Always tried to do my best and I will still leave with some good memories," Meite wrote on social media.
Despite experiencing both highs and lows during his two-year stint, Meite expressed optimism about the club's future, adding that he hopes to see them return to the Championship next season. The other departing players include Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas, and Aaron Ramsey.
Interestingly, while players are heading out, reports suggest "Cardiff" have their eye on potential reinforcements. The club is reportedly showing interest in Bristol Rovers midfielder Kamil Conteh, though they face competition from "Derby County" and "Wycombe Wanderers" for the 22-year-old Sierra Leone international.
The Bluebirds might struggle to push ahead with transfer dealings, though. Why? They currently lack a permanent manager, with Brian Barry-Murphy in talks to take over the dugout next season. His current employers, "Leicester City," would need to release him first.
El Ghazi also posted his farewell message on Instagram, reflecting on a Cardiff career that never quite took off due to injuries and inconsistent performances.
"Thank you @cardiffcityfc for giving me the opportunity to play football again," the former Aston Villa winger stated. "I wish the club and the fans nothing but the best."
