Lukas Kwasniok has officially joined "1. FC Köln" as their new head coach, signing a long-term contract running until June 30, 2028. The 43-year-old tactician makes the move from "SC Paderborn" where he's built a solid reputation in recent seasons.

"I was thinking about taking some time for myself, but when Thomas Kessler contacted me, it became clear. Köln is a special club and I couldn't say no," – Kwasniok explained about his decision.

The appointment marks a fresh start for the Cologne-based club, who are betting on Kwasniok's modern vision and proven track record in developing competitive teams. His journey to this point hasn't been straightforward, though. Born in Poland, Kwasniok saw his playing career cut short by injury during his formative years at "Karlsruher SC" – a setback that pushed him toward coaching.

Thomas Kessler, the sporting director at "Köln", praised the new appointment: "In Paderborn, he demonstrated great ability to build teams with identity, focusing on attractive football and giving opportunities to talented young players. His philosophy perfectly matches what we want for Köln's future."

Interestingly, Kwasniok's coaching resume includes successful stints at "FC Carl Zeiss Jena" and "1. FC Saarbrücken" – where he achieved promotion to the 3. Liga and reached a surprising German Cup semifinal. Since 2021, he's been at the helm of "SC Paderborn", establishing them as one of the more competitive sides in the 2. Bundesliga.

The appointment comes at a crucial time for "Köln". Can Kwasniok be the fresh leadership they need to regain prominence in German football? The fans are certainly eager to find out.
