Jobe Bellingham has completed his move to "Borussia Dortmund" for a hefty €33 million plus €5 million in add-ons. The 19-year-old midfielder, younger brother of Real Madrid star Jude, joins the German club from "Sunderland" after helping them secure promotion to the Premier League.
"I'm delighted to join Dortmund and fight for titles with this great club. I want to contribute my bit and will work day by day to achieve it," said Bellingham after putting pen to paper on a five-year contract that runs until June 2030.
The family connection is unmistakable - Jobe follows the same path his brother Jude took before making his big-money move to "Real Madrid". Both brothers play in midfield positions, though Jobe will need to carve out his own identity at the Signal Iduna Park.
Interestingly, the youngster arrives at "Dortmund" during a period of transition following what the club considers a disappointing season. His first opportunity to shine in the yellow and black will come at the imminent Club World Cup. Not a bad stage for a debut, right?
"Dortmund's" sporting director Sebastian Kehl expressed confidence in their new acquisition: "We've known Jobe for many years and have followed his development very closely. He took another big step forward last year and, at just 19, has established himself as an absolute leader."
The substantial transfer fee shows "Borussia Dortmund's" commitment to rebuilding with young talent. Will the younger Bellingham live up to the family name and justify that €38 million price tag? The upcoming season will tell.
