Liam Delap has chosen to join "Chelsea" over "Manchester United", with his previous working relationship with Blues manager Enzo Maresca playing a crucial role in the decision.
"In terms of numbers, he's doing fantastic," Maresca said of Delap previously. "It's not just in terms of his numbers. The way he plays and fights and is always 'there'. But he's an Ipswich player."
The Italian coach, who worked with Delap during their time at "Manchester City's" academy, clearly holds the striker in high regard. Their established connection appears to have given "Chelsea" the edge in securing his signature.
Interestingly, Maresca had even acknowledged Delap as an "enemy" before their meeting in April when the forward was at "Ipswich". He stated at the time: "He's an enemy on Sunday because we need to beat them, and then after the game I wish him all the best for the future."
The third - and perhaps most compelling - reason behind Delap's decision is Champions League football. "Chelsea" can offer the young striker the opportunity to compete at Europe's highest level, something "United" currently cannot match.
Could this transfer be the making of Delap's career? Only time will tell, but with Maresca's backing and the promise of Champions League nights, he seems to have made a calculated choice for his future development.
