Ben Davies might see his Rangers career resurrected after new manager Russell Martin plans to assess the defender during pre-season training. The 29-year-old center-back, who spent last season on loan at "Birmingham City," had seemingly been heading for the Ibrox exit door before Martin's arrival changed the equation.

"Martin is reluctant to close the door on any player before he's had a chance to assess them in pre-season and Ben Davies is likely to be offered a chance to resurrect his Rangers career," the Daily Mail reports.

Davies proved his worth during his time with "Birmingham," making 44 appearances across all competitions and helping the club secure the League One title in record-breaking fashion. His solid partnership with Christoph Klarer in the second half of the season certainly caught attention.

Interestingly, "Birmingham City" had been keen on securing Davies permanently, along with his Rangers teammate Kieran Dowell. Now those plans might need reconsideration. The club already has several center-backs under contract, including Christoph Klarer, Krystian Bielik, and Phil Neumann.

Despite dropping down to League One last season, Davies brings valuable Championship experience from his time with "Preston North End" and "Sheffield United." This experience could be exactly what Martin is looking for as he aims to refresh Rangers' defensive line.

With just one year remaining on his Ibrox contract, Davies finds himself at a career crossroads. Will he impress enough in pre-season to secure his future at "Rangers," or will "Birmingham City" still manage to bring him back permanently? The next few weeks could prove decisive for the defender's career path.
