Yakou Meite has officially said goodbye to "Cardiff City" after two challenging seasons with the Welsh club. The striker is one of seven first-team players departing this month as their contracts expire.
"Thanks @CardiffCityFC for this 2years. Really wanted to do well for this club but unfortunately its been a difficult season. Always tried to do my best and I will still leave with some good memories," – Meite wrote on his social media account.
Despite experiencing both highs and lows during his time with the Bluebirds, Meite expressed optimism for the club's future. He hopes they'll secure a quick return to the Championship following relegation.
Meite isn't leaving alone. The club has confirmed that Jamilu Collins, Raheem Conte, Anwar El Ghazi, Kieron Evans, Dimitrios Goutas, and Aaron Ramsey will also depart when their contracts expire at the end of June.
Interestingly, El Ghazi also shared a farewell message to supporters. The former Aston Villa winger, whose time in South Wales was plagued by injuries and inconsistent performances, thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to play again.
Meanwhile, "Cardiff City" appears to be showing interest in Bristol Rovers midfielder Kamil Conteh. The 22-year-old Sierra Leone international reportedly has a significant release clause in his contract, with Derby County and Wycombe Wanderers also monitoring the situation.
The Bluebirds' transfer activities might be somewhat hindered, though. Why? They currently don't have a permanent manager in place. Talks are ongoing with Brian Barry-Murphy about succeeding Omer Riza, but they need cooperation from his current employers, Leicester City.
Can Cardiff rebuild effectively after these departures? The summer transfer window will be crucial for their hopes of bouncing back to the Championship at the first attempt.
