Mark Harrison, head of transfer regulations at the football governing body, has confirmed that the 2025 summer transfer window will be split into two separate periods.
"We've carefully examined the current transfer system and determined that a two-window approach provides better flexibility for clubs," Harrison explained when announcing the change.
The unprecedented move to divide the traditional summer transfer window marks a significant shift in how clubs will conduct their business during the off-season. While the specific closing dates for both windows have been established, clubs are now adjusting their recruitment strategies to accommodate this new format.
Interestingly, this split-window approach comes after years of debate about the optimal transfer period structure. Several club executives had previously advocated for changes to the traditional single-window system.
The announcement has already triggered discussions among team managers and sporting directors about how to adapt. Will clubs concentrate their major signings in the first window, or save their biggest moves for the second period? That remains to be seen as teams prepare for this new transfer landscape.
