Cardiff City have finalized plans for a summer training camp in Spain despite still operating without a permanent manager. The Welsh club will head to Murcia for warm-weather preparation following their relegation to League One, with Aaron Ramsey now emerging as the clear favorite to take charge.
"Despite the current managerial situation, we need to ensure our pre-season preparations continue as planned," a club spokesperson might say regarding the confirmed training schedule.
The Bluebirds' Spanish camp will conclude with a friendly match at the Pinatar Arena on July 12, though their opponents remain unconfirmed. Additional pre-season fixtures are also planned before the 2025/26 campaign begins, with details still to be announced.
Interestingly, Cardiff's protracted manager search appears to be nearing conclusion, though sources indicate a final decision isn't expected until next week. Ramsey, 34, briefly took interim charge following Omer Riza's dismissal, overseeing the club's drop to the third tier for the first time since 2002/03.
One potential candidate, Nathan Jones, has officially removed himself from consideration after signing a new long-term contract with Charlton Athletic on Friday.
"I'm very proud and delighted," Jones stated after committing his future to the Addicks. "I still had three years left but for the club to come to me and want to continue that journey meant a lot to me because it's a club that I love."
Brian Barry-Murphy, Des Buckingham and Ian Evatt reportedly remain in the frame for the Cardiff job. But can the 34-year-old Ramsey, a club legend as a player, successfully transition into management at his hometown club during such a challenging period?
