Salomon Rondon scored a decisive goal as "Venezuela" secured a 2-0 victory over "Bolivia" in the 15th round of South American World Cup 2026 qualifiers on June 7.
The home team got off to a perfect start when Cuellar put the ball into his own net in the 5th minute, giving "Venezuela" an early advantage. Rondon then doubled the lead at the half-hour mark, effectively putting the game beyond Bolivia's reach.
By the way, this win keeps "Venezuela's" World Cup qualification hopes alive as they now sit on 18 points in the standings.
In the night's other fixture, "Colombia" and "Peru" played out a goalless draw. Not the result either side would have wanted, especially for the Peruvians who remain in ninth place with just 11 points.
The current CONMEBOL standings show "Argentina" comfortably leading the pack with 34 points. "Ecuador" and "Paraguay" are tied at 24 points each, followed by "Brazil" (22), while "Uruguay" and "Colombia" both have 21 points. "Venezuela" (18), "Bolivia" (14), "Peru" (11), and "Chile" (10) round out the table.
Interestingly, this was only the second goal for Rondon in this qualification campaign. Can "Venezuela" continue this momentum to secure one of the direct qualification spots for the 2026 World Cup?
