Nathan Jones has committed his future to "Charlton Athletic" by signing a new long-term contract, ending speculation about a potential move to "Cardiff City". The 52-year-old manager, who recently guided the Addicks to Championship promotion via the play-offs, was heavily linked with the vacant position at his boyhood club.

"I'm very proud and delighted. I still had three years left but for the club to come to me and want to continue that journey meant a lot to me because it's a club that I love," Jones explained after putting pen to paper.

The Rhondda-born tactician had emerged as a prime candidate for the "Cardiff" job following the south London club's Wembley triumph. But let's be honest - the timing was never great, was it? Charlton's promotion and their clear reluctance to lose their successful manager made any potential move complicated.

Club chairman Gavin Carter emphasized the growing unity at the Valley, stating: "We have a really cohesive group forming at Charlton - from the players and coaching staff to the wider team behind the scenes and of course our supporters. Nathan has been a key part of that unity."

Interestingly, Jones still had three years remaining on his previous deal, but both parties were keen to solidify their relationship further. Managing Director James Rodwell praised Jones's impact since his return to the club last year, highlighting his leadership in developing a positive culture.

With Jones now firmly committed to "Charlton", attention turns to who will take the helm at "Cardiff City". All signs point to Aaron Ramsey stepping into the role on a permanent basis after serving as interim manager for the final three games of last season.

The 34-year-old Ramsey, who has one year left on his playing contract, has emerged as the bookmakers' favorite ahead of candidates like Brian Barry-Murphy, Des Buckingham, and Ian Evatt. Could this be a risky move for Cardiff, handing the reins to a rookie manager in such a demanding division? Perhaps, but appointing the former Wales international might just be what's needed to reunite a frustrated fanbase.
