John Eustace is reportedly targeting a move for his former player Dion Sanderson as he looks to strengthen his "Derby County" squad this summer. The 25-year-old defender is expected to leave "Birmingham City" after falling out of favor under current manager Chris Davies.

"I always look for players I can trust and who understand my methods," – Eustace might be thinking as he considers this potential signing.

Sanderson's Birmingham career has taken a significant downturn since the start of last season. Despite beginning the campaign in the starting lineup, he quickly lost his place to eventual Player of the Year Christoph Klarer and was shipped out on loan to "Blackburn Rovers" in January – where, interestingly enough, Eustace was also in charge.

The defender made just two appearances for "Birmingham" in League One before Christmas, followed by 12 Championship appearances during his Blackburn loan spell. Not exactly a stellar record for a player who joined from "Wolverhampton Wanderers" in a £2 million deal two years ago.

Meanwhile, "Birmingham" have already bolstered their defensive options with the addition of Phil Neumann and are reportedly interested in re-signing Ben Davies from "Rangers" following his successful loan stint. This further suggests Sanderson's services are no longer required at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

This wouldn't be the first time Eustace and Sanderson have worked together. The pair have history from their time at "Queens Park Rangers" and "Birmingham," before reuniting briefly at "Blackburn." This established relationship could be key in any potential transfer.

Could this reunion finally provide Sanderson with the stability he needs to revive his career? Derby fans will certainly hope so if the deal goes through.
