Igor Klimov has moved to "Kharkiv Sokoly" after spending last season with "Cherkasy Mavpy." The 24-year-old defender is looking for new challenges after helping his former team secure bronze medals in the Superliga.
Last season proved productive for Klimov. He appeared in 35 matches for "Mavpy," averaging 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game – solid numbers that caught the attention of several clubs.
Valery Plekhanov, head coach of "Kharkiv Sokoly," didn't hide his enthusiasm about the new addition to his roster.
"I'm glad we signed Igor. He's a player who impresses with his quick decision-making and confidence on the court. Despite his young age, he already has substantial playing experience at a high level – dating back to his time with Prometey," – Plekhanov commented.
The coach particularly highlighted Klimov's defensive capabilities. "He has excellent defense and ability to play against stronger and bigger opponents. He stands out with his strong character," he added.
Interestingly, Plekhanov already sees Klimov as one of the potential leaders of the team despite his recent arrival. Competition in the defender position is now intensifying – something the coach views as strictly positive.
"I see him as one of our team's potential leaders. Competition in the defender position is now growing exponentially – and that only motivates everyone," – noted the Kharkiv coach.
Can Klimov live up to these expectations in his new basketball home? The upcoming season will certainly provide the answer.
