Stephen Curry might soon find himself with a new star teammate as the "Golden State Warriors" are reportedly considering a blockbuster trade to maximize the remainder of his career. A proposed deal would send Warriors veteran Draymond Green to the "New York Knicks" in exchange for center Karl-Anthony Towns.
"The Warriors need to find a center that can simultaneously space the floor and anchor the defense," – as per league analysts following the team's disappointing season.
The detailed mock trade would see the "Warriors" sending Green, Moses Moody, Buddy Hield and a 2027 first-round pick to New York. It's certainly a hefty package for Towns, who averaged 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season.
Interestingly, the "Knicks" might actually be open to such a deal after their early playoff exit. They were eliminated in six games by the "Indiana Pacers" and subsequently fired head coach Tom Thibodeau, signaling a potential roster shake-up.
But would this trade really benefit either side? Towns' offensive prowess is undeniable, but his defensive metrics tell a different story – a mere 0.1 defensive box plus-minus last season. Meanwhile, Green has been the defensive anchor for the "Warriors" throughout their championship runs.
The financial aspect can't be ignored either. To make this work, Golden State would need to move Green's remaining two years on his $100 million contract. That's no small consideration.
For Curry, the trade would potentially provide offensive relief, taking some scoring pressure off the aging superstar. The "Knicks" would gain much-needed shooting depth with Moody and Hield, plus Green's championship experience.
By the way, Green and Towns have publicly disagreed on numerous occasions, making this potential partnership even more intriguing. Would Warriors fans accept trading a franchise legend for someone who hasn't exactly seen eye-to-eye with him?
While the trade sounds fascinating on paper, the defensive downgrade for Golden State might be too severe to seriously consider. Can Curry's offensive brilliance compensate for what could be a defensive disaster? That's the million-dollar question.
