Igor Klimov has signed with "Kharkiv Sokols" after leaving "Cherkasy Mavps" where the 24-year-old defender had a productive run. The promising player is switching teams following a bronze medal finish in Ukraine's Superliga last season.
During his time with "Mavps," Klimov participated in 35 matches while posting respectable numbers – averaging 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Not too shabby for a young talent still developing his game.
"I'm glad we signed Igor. He's a player who impresses with his quick decision-making and confidence on the court. Despite his young age, he already has solid playing experience at a high level – dating back to his time with Prometey," – commented Valerii Plekhanov, head coach of the Kharkiv squad.
The coach seems particularly impressed with Klimov's defensive capabilities and mental toughness. By the way, Plekhanov didn't hold back when discussing what attracted him to the player, specifically highlighting Klimov's ability to match up against physically stronger opponents.
"He has excellent defensive skills and the ability to play against stronger and more physically imposing opponents. He stands out with his strong character. I see him as one of the potential leaders of our team," – Plekhanov added.
Interestingly, competition for the defender position at "Kharkiv Sokols" is heating up considerably – something the coach views as positive motivation rather than a problem. Will Klimov step up and claim a leadership role as his new coach envisions? The upcoming season will tell.
