Ryan García has publicly criticized ICE operations in Los Angeles despite previously supporting Donald Trump. The 26-year-old boxer took to social media to express his concerns about immigration enforcement while recovering from hand surgery.

"I may have voted for Trump, but I can't stay silent about what's happening with ICE in Los Angeles. They aren't just 'illegal immigrants' or statistics, they are people," García posted on X. "Working immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities, and are part of our people. Tearing them from their homes isn't just policy, it's pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity."

The welterweight fighter, born in Victorville, California but currently residing in Los Angeles, shared these comments as protests against immigration enforcement continue in the city, located about 90 miles southwest of his hometown.

Meanwhile, García's boxing career remains on hold. After losing his last fight against Rolly Romero at Times Square, he underwent surgery on his right hand in early June. Oscar De La Hoya, president of "Golden Boy Promotions", has suggested the boxer should take the rest of the year to fully recover.

Worth noting, García's recent career has been interrupted by both injuries and doping issues. The boxer served a one-year suspension after testing positive for ostarine following his April 2024 bout with Devin Haney.

Fans might need patience - all signs point to García not returning to the ring until 2026. Will the extended break help him come back stronger? Only time will tell.
