Keyshawn Davis will defend his WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 in what he hopes will be a memorable homecoming. The Olympic silver medalist returns to Virginia's Scope Arena for his first title defense in front of his hometown crowd.
Davis (13-0) captured the WBO lightweight belt in February with an impressive four-round victory over Denys Berinchyk. This marked a significant comeback for the Virginia native after previously having a win overturned due to a positive marijuana test.
"He's not an old fighter," Davis told The Ring about his opponent. "He's young. De Los Santos is very young. What I do expect is probably the first couple rounds he'll be slow, get his feet under him."
Despite being a heavy favorite, Davis isn't taking his challenger lightly. De Los Santos (16-2) may be coming off a lengthy layoff since his 2023 loss to Shakur Stevenson for the WBC title, but he brings knockout power that commands respect.
The Dominican challenger certainly isn't lacking confidence. "If I connect, I don't think the fight will continue because it'll end right there," De Los Santos boldly predicted in an interview with Fight Hype.
Interestingly, the event will be something of a family affair. Both of Davis's brothers, Kelvin and Keon, are scheduled to compete on the undercard. Kelvin (15-0) faces Nahir Albright in a super lightweight bout, while younger brother Keon (3-0) takes on Michael Velez-Garcia in the welterweight division.
The card also features promising talent Abdullah Mason (18-0) against veteran Jeremia Nakathila (26-4) in the co-main event, along with undefeated prospects Delante "Tiger" Johnson and Troy Isley in separate bouts.
For fans looking to catch the action, the fights will air on ESPN with streaming options available on Fubo and ESPN+. The main card begins at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, with Davis and De Los Santos expected to make their ring walks around 11:15 p.m.
Can Davis deliver the kind of performance his hometown fans are expecting? Or will De Los Santos shock the boxing world with his powerful right hand? The Scope Arena should be electric come June 7.
