Ryan García has taken a stand against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Los Angeles despite his previous support for Donald Trump. The 26-year-old welterweight boxer used his X account to voice concerns about the treatment of immigrants during ongoing protests in the city.

"I may have voted for Trump, but I cannot stay silent about what's happening with ICE in Los Angeles. They are not just 'illegal immigrants' or statistics, they are people," García wrote. "Working immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities and are part of our people. Tearing them from their homes is not just a policy, it's pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity."

Born in Victorville, California, García currently resides in Los Angeles, about 90 miles southwest of his hometown. The city has been experiencing significant protests, with authorities implementing curfews to manage the situation.

Meanwhile, García's boxing career remains on hold following right hand surgery in early June. Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, has suggested the fighter take the remainder of the year to recover properly.

Interestingly, fans might have to wait until 2026 to see "King Ry" back in action. His last appearance ended in defeat against Rolly Romero at Times Square. García's career has faced multiple interruptions recently, including a one-year suspension after testing positive for ostarine following his April 2024 bout with Devin Haney.

Can García successfully balance his growing political voice with his athletic comeback? The boxing world will be watching closely.
