Ryan García took a public stance on immigration issues in Los Angeles despite his previous support for Donald Trump. The 26-year-old welterweight boxer shared his thoughts on social media as protests continue throughout the city.

"I may have voted for Trump, but I can't stay silent about what's happening with ICE in Los Angeles. They're not just 'illegal immigrants' or statistics, they're people," García wrote on X. "Working immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities and are part of our people. Tearing them from their homes isn't just policy, it's pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity."

The California-born fighter, who lives in Los Angeles but was born in Victorville about 90 miles away, made these comments as the city faced its second consecutive night of curfews amid ongoing protests.

Interestingly, García's boxing career is currently on hold. The boxer underwent surgery on his right hand in early June, and fans might need extraordinary patience to see him back in action.

Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, has indicated that García should take the rest of the year to recover, targeting a 2026 return to the ring. This comes after his defeat to Rolly Romero at Times Square in his most recent bout.

García's career has hit several speed bumps lately. Beyond his recent hand surgery, he served a one-year suspension after testing positive for ostarine following his April 2024 fight against Devin Haney.

Can the outspoken boxer successfully navigate both political controversies and career setbacks to make a strong comeback next year? The road ahead certainly looks challenging.
