Keyshawn Davis will defend his WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos on June 7 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia – a homecoming event the Olympic silver medalist has been eagerly anticipating.
Davis (13-0) captured the WBO title in February with an impressive four-round victory over Denys Berinchyk, adding championship gold to a professional record that includes 12 previous wins. The victory marked a significant comeback after having a previous win overturned following a positive marijuana test.
"He's not an old fighter," Davis said about his challenger. "He's young. De Los Santos is very young. What I do expect is probably the first couple rounds he'll be slow, get his feet under him. The arena's gonna be packed... It's gonna be a different environment from what his last fight was."
The challenger, Edwin De Los Santos (16-2), hasn't competed since his 2023 loss to Shakur Stevenson for the WBC title. Despite the layoff, the hard-hitting boxer remains confident in his power, hunting for what would be his 15th career knockout.
"If I connect, I don't think the fight will continue because it'll end right there," De Los Santos told Fight Hype, making his intentions crystal clear.
Interestingly, the event will be a family affair with both of Keyshawn's brothers featuring on the undercard. Kelvin Davis (15-0) will face Nahir Albright in a super lightweight contest, while Keon Davis (3-0) takes on Michael Velez-Garcia in a welterweight bout.
The co-main event spotlights rising prospect Abdullah Mason (18-0) against the experienced Jeremia Nakathila (26-4), while Delante "Tiger" Johnson (15-0) and Troy Isley (14-0) round out a card packed with undefeated talent.
Despite being the heavy favorite, Davis isn't taking De Los Santos lightly, acknowledging the potential for an interesting fight if he can't secure an early stoppage. With a packed hometown arena behind him, can Davis deliver the dominant performance fans are expecting? We'll find out on June 7, when the action streams live on ESPN+ and Fubo.
