Ryan García spoke out about immigration issues amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles, despite his previous support for Donald Trump. The 26-year-old welterweight boxer took to social media to express concerns about ICE operations in the city he calls home.

"I may have voted for Trump, but I can't stay silent about what's happening with ICE in Los Angeles. They're not just 'illegal immigrants' or statistics, they're people," García posted on X. "Working immigrants, especially Mexicans, who pay taxes, raise families, build our communities and are part of our people. Tearing them from their homes isn't just policy, it's pain. We can have borders without losing our humanity."

The California-born fighter, who resides in Los Angeles, shared these thoughts as the city faces its second consecutive night under curfew due to widespread protests.

On the professional front, García's return to boxing appears distant. Following hand surgery in early June, the boxer likely won't step back into the ring until 2026. Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, has encouraged García to take the full year to recover properly after his loss to Rolly Romero at Times Square.

Recent years haven't been kind to "King Ry." His career has stalled due to both injuries and a doping suspension. He spent a year sidelined after testing positive for ostarine following his April 2024 bout against Devin Haney.

Born in Victorville, California – about 90 miles northeast of the current protest epicenter – García's connection to the region runs deep. Can the boxer successfully navigate both his political voice and professional comeback? The boxing world will be watching closely.
